You have recently been made the subject of a comicbook, called Aurora Snow: True Stories of Adult Film
Stars. How
does it feel to be turned into a comicbook character? I
adore being a comic book character! It’s a way of reaching out and
getting in touch with a completely different audience. Well, sort of. What
comic book collectors and adult film fans have in common is being part of
a close knit niche group, it’s flattering to see myself as a bridge from
one group to the other. How
do you like your artistic depictions in the book, and which artist do you
think has captured your beauty the best?
I love the different artistic renderings in the book. It certainly causes me
to step back and see myself in a much more creative light. Some of the
artists took creative liberties with my image and it was enjoyable to
waltz down fantasy lane with their renditions.
How big was your creative input on the book?
A lot of the writing in the comic book came from me, it was taken from some
of my blogs, diary entries, interviews, etc. So the comic book is a very
personalized experience. How were you
initially approached concerning the project? Steve
Crompton [SS Crompton
interview - click here] of Carnal Comics initially got in touch with me. He proposed an
Ashcan to start and then a full comic from there. At the time I had no
idea what an Ashcan was and didn’t even know what I was getting into
until I attended Comic Con for the first time with Carnal Comics. Seeing
the enthusiasm and energy people bring to the comic world is
contagious… I wanted more than anything to be a part of that world, to
have a place in it, and be a part of the intrigue. What was the
collaboration with Carnal Comics like? I
love the integrity and dedication to the comic art form that I get from
working with Carnal Comics. I really enjoy working with
Carnal Comics
and hope that we can create a series of Aurora Snow adventures…. Real life
adventures depicted by Carnal Comics. Having
been turned into a comicbook character, are you actually into comicbooks, and if yes, what
are some of your favourites? Now
that I have attended Comic Con and been introduced to the world of comics
I am developing quite a fascination with them. I began collecting some of
the Hi-Fructose comics. I love the visuals. I like to find comic books
that cross between the dark and light sides of humor. One particular image
I recall was a joke about Mary’s lamb that ended with the lamb in a
bloody puddle. I am drawn to the juxtaposition that represents. Your comicbook seems to
have a very light-hearted, even ironic style to it. How did that come
about? It
was a natural development; light hearted and ironic are two ways I would
describe how I deal with my surroundings, so it makes sense that the comic
being about my life would come across that way.
Whose idea was the very feline depiction of you
on the cover of the comicbook?
Steve Crompton, asked if there was a particular way I would like myself to be
depicted. Without any hesitation I practically dropped to my
knees begging to be made into a cat. I feel a kindred spirit with felines
and share many finicky traits, if I believed in reincarnation I’d
swear I was a cat in a former life. I love cats, and have never
lived a day without one. Cats are loving, wise, independent, elegant and
versatile, all qualities I aspire to. Any fun facts about your
life that are not in the book? Loaded
question. Where ever to begin? Yes, there are many fun facts to share…
But which ones? Hmmm… I must ponder this. How did you get started
in the adult film industry in the first place? I
called a newspaper ad in the Orange County Registrar while I was in my
first year of college at the University of California, Irvine. I didn’t
want to be in debt when I graduated college, I also didn’t see how I’d
ever be able to pay that debt back, no matter what job I ended up getting
with my degree. So I answered a newspaper ad for nude modeling. I planned
to hate it, do it for the money for a year, then get out and never look
back. The business surprised me, being nothing I expected it to be. I also
surprised myself by enjoying it, and not wanting to leave it behind as
soon as I had planned to. I never expected to make a career out of this,
but am happy it worked out that way.
Tell us a little bit about your very first shoot, and were you at all nervous having
sex on cam for the first time? I was so nervous on my first
shoot. I didn’t know if I was supposed to wear make-up, I didn’t know
that I was supposed to make any noise. I used to be very quiet when having
sex and I couldn’t fathom the idea of performing. I quickly warmed
up to the idea and began to play with my partners and play for the
camera… that took time and a level of comfort that I built up to. Besides a very prolific
career as a performer, you occasionally also work as director of your
films. What made you decide to step behind the camera? I
love directing. Quite a bit of fun to see your vision come to life, it
takes the creative process a step further.
A few words about your directorial debut, Perverted Tales?
Assploitations was my directorial debut… though Perverted Tales
came shortly thereafter. Perverted Tales
was my baby, I created the concept, wrote it, directed it, cast
it, etc. It was my first venture into a feature-like film, previous to this
I’d just shot gonzo movies, which may have involved a central theme but no
set-ups or storylines to follow. My boss at Sin City, who I was contracted
with at the time, brought me into the office and yelled at me about this movie
telling me how bad it was, that there was no market for it, and he couldn’t
believe that I did this when he trusted me to turn in a good movie. He later ate
his words - even though he couldn’t appreciate the movie, everyone else did
and it received great reviews as well as selling quite well. Funny to look back
and see the way things turn out.
You have since your debut directed mostly films with the word Anal or Ass
in the title (which I suppose is an indication of the movies' content).
Why is that? Anal
is what the market demands. I like to shoot what my fans want to see. I
believe in catering to the people who want to watch it. Not to mention
that seems to be what a lot of people know me for. Any future projects you'd like to talk
about? I
am constantly working on my website www.AuroraSnow.com; it’s not just my videos, and pictures, but I am very interactive
answering my emails constantly and blogging about what happens not only in
my day to day life but what goes on behind the scenes, what the cameras
don’t roll on. It’s a peak into my life and who I am, the girl behind
the pornstar. Unfortunately not
even you will be able to perform in porn forever - any plans for the time
after? Yes, I realize that I have to grow up and get a real
job very soon. Still think I’d like to go to law school and become an
entertainment lawyer. I am riding out the wave, this has been a lot of
fun, and a great career for my twenties, and I plan to squeeze at least
three careers out of my lifetime. So next I will either be a lawyer or an
author, though not in any particular order. Life’s funny, and while I
make these something else may come up and completely change everything. You
also have your own website. A few words about that one?
Yes, www.AuroraSnow.com
I just raved about it when you asked about my future projects…
Aurora Snow-films one simply has to watch?
Perverted
Tales, Assploitations, and Trained Teens… all classics. Your
favourite on-screen sex partners? Gauge,
Lauren Phoenix, Avy Scott, Holly Hollywood… these are the first four
woman that spring to mind. As for guys well, much harder…there are
so many I don’t even want to name a top five because I cannot and you
really don’t read a long, long list of names.
The one stupid question I nevertheless feel obliged to ask every porn star: What's your favourite position?
Depends on my partner and how they are shaped. Sometimes
it’s on top, sometimes it’s doggy style, sometimes missionary. It
depends what mood I am in, but mostly how my partner is shaped and in what
position he can hit the sweet spot.
You have also appeared in a handful of non-adult movies.
What can you tell us about those, and how does mainstream moviemaking
differ from porn moviemaking (apart from the obvious)? Mainstream
movies have much bigger crews, shoot a lot more footage and have
completely different methods of shooting. Being on a porn set and a
mainstream set is like night and day in they way they operate. I enjoy
acting, it’s certainly a fun hobby of mine. I have shot a few horror
movies in the last few years, they should be coming out soon. One of which
is called A place to Die directed by Sage Stallone. I look forward
to doing more mainstream productions, I really enjoy performing. Some
people you really look up to - both inside and outside the industry? I
admire people who don’t give up. Who keep pushing through the odds. Right now that’s my brother, Keith. He was in a near fatal motorcycle
accident last year and is now a quadriplegic (cannot use his fingers,
nor his arms nor his legs - he says he feels like a head stuck on a
concrete body). He just turned 25 years old yesterday, and if he can keep
going and find things to smile about, then so can anyone else. He has
more of a right to wallow in depression and yet he chooses against the
odds not to; he struggles everyday to recover movement, just to twitch
his finger or be able to control his torso to roll over on his own would
be such monumental joy. Everyday I appreciate whatever I have before me
no matter what it is because of him and the challenges he must face.
If anyone would like to contribute to my brother’s recovery, a tax
deductible donation can be made by going to this site http://www.ntafund.org/find-a-patient/profile/index.cfm/ patient/06AD45D1-BCF3-1560-5B0DAA3893E15E0E
His name is Keith Smith and he is a spinal chord injury patient.
Since this is a filmsite: Your favourite films?
All Kevin Smith films, though my two favorites are Chasing Amy and Dogma. All
Quentin Tarantino films - he’s a mad genius. I
am also partial to All About Eve.
And
some films you really deplored? I
couldn’t get into Watchmen. I expected to love it, and yet I couldn’t
get there. Anything else you'd love
to mention and I have simply forgotten to ask?
I wanted to include these in the interview at the end:
