Your upcoming film Dead Walkers: Rise of the 4th Reich
- in a
few words, what is it about, and what can you tell us about your character
in it?
Dead Walkers is a clever mixture of
horror and action, having very nasty characters in it. One of them is
mine, the Nazi hitwoman Captain Geryon. I'm playing the complete opposite
of the real Dayna, what I enjoy because I like challenges like that.
Specifically taking into account that you're originally from Germany:
What
were the first thoughts going through your mind when you heard the movie's
title, Dead Walkers: Rise of the 4th Reich
(and I seriously
hope this question is not too much of a clichée)?
Dayna with Graham Gill |
I thought: That's interesting, why not being part of it...? I'm not
bothered about the Second World War because it's over and we can't change
the terrible things that happened in it. I'm interested in the artistic
side of the movie.
How did you get involved with the project in the first place?
I've worked with the Reality Films and
Chemical Burn cast and crew
before when I played a possessed girl in Exorcist Chronicles. So I
stayed in touch and a few months later I received an e-mail about Dead
Walkers, what it is about, and that they are looking for actors and extras
to take part. I said yes because I enjoy working with internationally
acclaimed director Philip Gardiner [Philip

and well known writer/producer Michelle Gent [Michelle
Gent interview - click here].
What can you tell us about Dead Walkers: Rise of the 4th Reich's
director Philip Gardiner [Philip
Gardiner interview - click here], and what was your collaboration
like? And how did you first hook up with him?
The collaboration with Philip is very honest, in an encouraging way. I met him
the first time at the audition for Exorcist Chronicles
in July last year.
It felt really good to audition for the character of the possessed girl
because it was an amazing feeling of freedom to be just crazy and to do
whatever we like. On this day Jane Haslehurst [Jane

From what I heard, at least parts of Dead Walkers: Rise of the 4th Reich
were shot in an unheated warehouse during the coldest days of the year - so
what can you tell us about the shoot as such and the on-set atmosphere?
It was amazing that even when it was freezing cold and some of the
actors/extras playing Vrill victims had to wear very thin overalls, no one was
moaning. I can really say that working with this cast and crew was very
inspiring for me because of so much dedication and positive energy. After a
day it felt as if I would would have known everyone for years because we all are helping
and supporting each other like old friends.
If there ever was a Dead Walkers II: Let's Go to an even Colder
Warehouse for the 5th Reich, would you be on board?
Yes, of course. I'm normally a person who hates freezing... but as I said
before, it's worth it.
Prior to Dead Walkers: Rise of the 4th Reich, you have made another
film with Philip Gardiner [Philip
Gardiner interview - click here], Exorcist Chronicles]
- so what
can you tell us about that experience?
It was something I've never done before. I like playing crazy characters like
a possessed person. Portraying such a role gives an actor/actress the chance
to do things you wouldn't be allowed to do in real life.
Any future projects you'd like to talk about?
The next film we'll be doing with the cast and crew from the
Awesome Talent Agency will be based on a book Michelle Gent [Michelle
Gent interview - click here] has
written: Dusty the Demon Hunter, where I'll be playing an evil
fairy... You can go to http://www.awesometalentagency.com/?m=0
to keep updated about our newest projects.
Otherwise I'm also starting out as a
singer/songwriter.
Let's
go back to the beginnings of your career: What got you into acting in the
first place, and what can you tell us about your training as an actress? Since
I was a kid I always wanted to act and sing because as far as I remember I
was always fascinated by great movies, songs and everything related. I
wanted to be part of the awesome world of arts where everything and
anything is possible. I started professionally in 2005 when I went to 2
different drama schools in Munich learning different approaches like
Method Acting, the Tschechow method, Stanislavski and Meisner. After that
I attended the Downtown Music Institute in Augsburg, Germany to do a 1
year course in vocals for rock/popmusic. As
mentioned earlier, you are originally from Germany. So what prompted you
to move to the UK eventually, and since you've been in movies here and
there, how would you compare the chances and challenges for up-and-coming
actresses in both countries?
In both countries I found
professional, inspiring people. My fiancé Al Branton who is a musician
encouraged me to come to London. So I did a 4-weeks course in Acting for
Film at the Met Film School at Ealing Studios in London where I worked
with directors and casting agents who worked with Jonny Depp and Keira
Knightley before. After that experience I decided to stay in the UK
because I made great connections in a short time. What can you tell us about
your filmwork prior to Exorcist Chronicles
and Dead Walkers: Rise of the 4th Reich?
I
played in various short films in the UK trying different genres. In 2009 I
played a character in an award winning German feature film called Vincent
will Meer, together with actor Florian David Fitz
who is also known from an American hospital sitcom and Karoline Herfurth
who is a star in Germany. I also played in a few German TV series to see
different ways of working in front of the camera. How would you describe
yourself as an actress, and what do you draw upon to bring your characters
to life? I like challenging roles! It's no big deal to
become a complete different character who has nothing to do with the real
you as long as you focus on the situation, the emotion and create your own
world around this specific person you are portraying. As an actor/actress
it's very important to BE IN THE MOMENT - then it flows automaticly and
you'll be convincing, truthful and authentic.
Actresses (and indeed actors) who inspire you? Jonny
Depp, Cameron Diaz, Keira Knightley, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Brad
Pitt, Till Schweiger, Florian David Fitz, Karoline Herfurth... and my
colleagues from the Awesome Talent Agency like Nikki Webster [Nikki

Talent Agency whom I forgot to mention is allowed to hit me for forgetting
his/her name. ;) They are all f****** AWESOME Your
favourite movies?
7 Years in Tibet, The Curious
Case of
Benjamin Button, Inglourious Basterds, Keinohrhasen, Saw,
Frauds, Cruel Intentions. ... and of course, films you really
deplored? I can't remember any... Your website, Facebook, whatever else?

Anything else you are dying
to mention and I have merely forgotten to ask?
I just want to encourage everyone out there:
Follow your dreams, believe in yourself and delete/ignore everything
negative! One thing Phil Gardiner taught me: AIDA = attention, interest,
desire, action. Follow these words and you'll make it!
Thanks
for the interview!
