Your new movie Cured
- in a few words, what is it about, and
what can you tell us about your character in it?
Cured
is a very good bitter sweet story about the brethren lead by
Isobelle (played by Sharon Spink [Sharon
Spink interview - click here]). Isobelle is worried about all
the things which are happening in the outside world, so she decides to do
something about it. Cured
mostly centeres around a family, Jenifer
(Lucy Marshall), Richard (Chris Dudley [Chris
Dudley interview - click here]) and Jess (Kayla Leigh Holdsworth). Jess is
a bit afraid of the brethren and Richard just goes to please his wife
Jenifer who admires Isobelle and wants to support her. What
did you draw upon to bring your character to life, and how much Sarah
Hornshaw can we find in Rachel?
I brought Rachel to life by pretending it was real and
thinking deeply about the type of person Rachel would be, I did a
character bio for her and I imagined how I would feel in such a situation.
Rachel is not keen on the brethren and only goes because some of her
friends do. She is very suspicious, Rachel does not trust Issobelle at all,
she is unsure of what is going on but knows it is something serious, and
she does not like or trust it.
Your personal thoughts about suicide cults like the one depicted in Cured?
It is a very diffcult subject, I lost a friend to suicide and it is
horrible for the people left behind, I think for anyone considering this,
they must be very unhappy and scared, I would say to anyone who is this
scared or unhappy please get professional help and if you can, talk to
someone you trust.
How did you get involved with the project in the first place?
I got involved through awesme Northern Star Acting,
it was part of
my assessment in 2017 NSA assesments.
Do
talk about your director Sebastian Roberts [Sebastian
Roberts interview - click here], and what was your
collaboration like? Sebastian is great he is a brilliant
director, and really thinks about what he wants from his work and brings
it to life, I loved working with him and everyone involved in Cured.
A few words about the shoot as such,
and the on-set atmosphere?
I really enjoyed working on Cured, when we need to be we are all
profesional and we can have a laugh when it is ok to do so. The cast
and crew of Cured
are all amazing and I really loved working with
them all.
Any future projects you'd
like to share?
There's a few things atcually, there is a project Katie J.
Redstar [Katie J. Redstar
interview - click here] has thought of which myself and John are also involved in, that is
all I can say for now but watch out for it, I also write children's stories
about my cuddly cat and Unicorn and I am planning to write a panto in 2019,
also about them. What the story of the panto will be is a secret for now, I
do not want to spoil it for anyone, however I will be casting a lot of the
tribelets in it, I will start on the panto once my first book is published,
my characters are already copyrighted and the stories will be copyrighted
also, so just need to finish pictures and get it published.
What got you into acting in the first place, and what can
you tell us about your education on the subject? I have
always loved acting. I did not really do it in school, I did in college - however that did not really go very well, I had always wanted to continue
however never felt confident enough to do anything, then one day I saw a post
on a friend's profile for Northern Star Acting
and I pondered whether to apply.
Would I be good enough? Would my Noonan sydrome stop me? And so many other
doubts went through my mind, I messaged Sian Reese Williams on Twitter and she just told me to go for it and not worry if I did not get
in, then after the audition I got news I was in!! I was so happy. What
can you tell us about your filmwork prior to Cured?
Cured
is the first film I have done, though I have done other work: Lights Camera
Action,
which was a murder mystery, Monsters Brew, a halloween panto both
written and directed by Lucy Marshall, and I have done a film this year, Smart
Life, which was for the NSA
2018 assessments. I also did a workshop
at Emmerdale studios last year for disabled people.
How
would you describe yourself as an actress, and some of your techniques to
bring your characters to life? I would say I am passionate
about acting, I am bonkers and unique I am strong and will always be
independent. I can get along with anyone, I love to have fun, however will
always be profesional when I need to be. I usually bring my characters to
life by thinking about them and their lives, I do a bio of them, which is
part of the 14 step character building technique Luana gave us to do. I
also go around in character for a day making choices that character woud
make. Actresses (and indeed
actors) who inspire you? Definitely Lucy Pargerter, Sian
Reese Wiliams, Lesley Dunlop and Eirian Cohen (who is now Luana) [Eirian
Cohen interview - click here] are my
favorite actresses and my heroes, they are all amazing and inspiring in so
many different ways, I love them all so much. Sian has done so much since
leaving Emmerdale and she is amazing she played DI Cadi John recently in
the welsh drama Craith (which means "hidden" in Welsh) and I think
her character in that is my favorite she has played so far. Lucy is
brilliant and so funny as Chas and is the best Dingle, she has a brilliant
storyline. Lucy is brilliant at the funny and emotional and dramatic stuff,
as is Lesley who plays Brenda and also has a big storyline at the moment,
Lesley has been acting for years, she has been in so many things, I
remember her in Where the Heart is, I have loads of her stuff on
DVD. I've
seen a Eirian Cohen in a couple of things and she was fantastic in
everything I have seen her in. Actor I would have to say Chris Chitell, he
has been doing it for years and is very funny as Eric, and is the longest
running cast member he has been in Emmerdale for over 30 years.
I also have seen him in To Sir With Love in which he played Potter
a cheeky teenager when he was 19. Your favourite movies? I
absloubly love Pretty Woman, it's such a lovely movie, I love the part where
she goes in the shop where than nasty woman would not serve her and says
to them “hi do ypi remember me? I was in here yesterday you wouldn’t wait on me? You work on
comission right? Big mistake
big huge mistake, I have to go shopping now” and walks out and the end, I
also love Disney movies, my favorites are Mary Poppins and Frozen. ...
and of course, films you really deplore? The
Shining
scared me so much that I was scared to go in the bathroom at night for
ages and still put light on and will not shut the door unless
I really need to. The one I saw a few years ago about Killer
Tomatoes was the
worst movie ever, just a load of rubbish, I got bored of it and was making
fun of it. And another where some girls were being chased by a crocodile
and decided to run in the water for some reason, I thought oh yeah,
what a good idea, you get chased by a crocodile so you run into the water where there are more
crocodiles. And why they were sunbathing near crocodiles I'll never know, my cuddly cat has more
intelligence than that. Your website,

Anything else you're dying to
mention and I have merely forgotten to ask?
Firstly I would
like to say thank you to Luana Ribeira (Eirian Cohen [Eirian
Cohen interview - click here]) who has helped me so
much, if it was not for her I would not be where I am now, I love her so
much, she's like a sister to me, I love NSA
and the tribelets and the
coaches Carl, Molly, Liam, it is wonderful. I even have a Unicorn named
after Luana., Luana Eirian the Unicorn is very mischevious and working
passionatly alongside Sian the Cat, Teddy Jo Bramble and Snoopy to get rid of
cold callers. When the people ring I put them on and they sing Disney
songs, Christmas songs and other songs badly and/or have a full blown
argument, with swearing and shouting threats and everything, my cuddly cat
Sian the Cat screams at teddy to stop licking his big fat bum or she will
poo on his stupid dumbhead and kick him out the window by his bum, only
she does not use the word bum and has a few other colourful words to say
as well. Then Minnie (my dog) barks so Sian the Cat shouts at her to shut
up and go stick her head down a drain then shouts at Eirian the Unicorn
not to stick her head down the bog just because the stupid dumb teddy told
her to. They then continue singing (if the person is still there), myself,
Sian the Cat and Luana Eirian the Unicorn also like to be bonkers to people in
public we stand next to people and burst into sudden song or
ask if they believe in talking cats and unicorns. They also annoy train
conductors who don't believe (stupid old gits), Sian the Cat and
Eirian the Unicorn raise their bums at them. We go around asda shouting
boagies and playing with all the toys and putting things in people's trollies, and we phone in sick to jobs we
don't have. These are also my characters for my stories I write. my friend advised me to get their
characters copyrighted so only I can use them, and so I did. Also I'd love
to thank Minnie my dog for sitting on my laptop demanding attention
all the time, so very helpful. And another thing, I have changed my
stage name to Sara Sian Eirian Hornshaw, I like it as it's unique. Thanks for
the interview!
