Tags - in a few words, what's it about?
Deconstructing the body!
With Phallacies, we began dismantling one of cinema’s last taboos:
the male body — not just undressed, but stripped of shame, censorship
and centuries of moral hypocrisy.
With AnalOgies, the gaze turns to the anus — a site of rejection
and desire. With Toe
Tags, the foot becomes fetish, fragment, digital ghost —
consumed and dismembered in a world obsessed with surfaces.
What can you tell us about
Toe Tags' co-creator Jon Devlin [Jon
Devlin interview - click here], and what was
your collaboration like?
I just love cooperate with him... he is agreeable, creative,and
never says no when there is an opportunity to dare and make real indie
films instead of cheap mainstream copycat movies like seems to be the new
tendence in indie filmmaking.
How easy or hard was it to find other directors to collaborate on
a foot fetish horror film?
Pretty easy I must say.— those are all people that usually explore
and try to never repeat themselves in creativity, so when we proposed
the idea, the answer was suddenly YES!
So what can you tell us about your segment inToe Tags,
Clara
and your directorial approach to your story at hand?
The story of
Clara is
simple: After her mother’s funeral, Clara becomes trapped between grief
and obsession. A dress, old photos and a pair of shoes awaken the feeling
that her mother has returned, slowly walking through her and the life
Clara never managed to claim as her own. I wanted to tell a story from the
point of view of the incapacity sometimes to say goodbye... to an object,
to a person, even if this
person fits too tight in our life like an old pair of shoes.
Do talk about
Clara's cast, and why exactly these people?
Eva Cavádas is an amazing actress, she has the sensitivity to bring emotions to
life, and for the intimate approach I wanted to give to the
story she was the first choice. The unique possible. Also it's very
easy to work with her, the first take is already intense and good,
and also it's a pleasure share time on set, without drama.
You have also written the script for the segment for
Toe Tags' last segment Number 43 - so what's that one about,
and again, what were your inspirations?
I did the cinematography and FX too. In this case Adam had
an amazing actor on his
hands who worked with me on stage too. Here too the idea is a mix of cannibalism and supernatural, but
still tied up with the idea of the impossibility of saying goodbye to
something or someone we love. The shoes are a great symbol of
possession, attachment, fate, directions...
So what can you tell us about Number 43's
director Adam Ford, and what was your collaboration like?
I've worked with Adam for years, he acted for me in Hyde's
Sectet Nightmare, then in P.O.E. 2, and then I produced his directorial debut
with the cult Torment.
Do talk about the other segments of
Toe Tags, and their
respective directors!
I just love all of them, and I'm so glad we also have 2 women
(Irene Baruffetti and Cory DeAn Cowley) directing segments — so different in emotion and
approach, and still intense and painful!

For now, the movie is an exclusive limited release of
Dagon Films.
Anything you can tell us about audience and ctirical reception of
Toe Tags?
Till now, all reviews are enthusiastic and surprised by the
original concept. I hope audience will say the same!
Any future projects you'd like to share?
I'm currently following the distribution of my fantasy/road movie
Yokai: Book of Shadows and editing my last supernatural horror
-18ş that will be released in 2027!
How would you describe yourself as a director?
A very relaxed, not stressed and not dramatic person, that in arts
loves to dare himself and the audience.
