Shawn C.Phillips, Doug Waugh

Hot on the heels of Treasure Chest of Horrors, you have produced Treasure Chest of Horrors II. In a few words, what is the movie about?

"Mona Screamalot, along with her crazy family, prepares you for six short horror films from deep within her trashy treasure chest. This anthology features party killers, giant killer babies, an angry murderous child, a bacterial infection like no other, a murderous cross dresser,a killer in the woods, and Satan. Oh yeah, don't forget the buckets of blood."

Besides shorts by Doug Waugh [Doug Waugh interview - click here] and Shawn C.Phillips [Shawn C.Phillips interview - click here] & M. Kelley, who were also responsible for the first Treasure Chest of Horrors, Treasure Chest of Horrors II also features a film by Alex Powers. What can you tell us about him, and why did you choose his movie to be in the collection?

Alex Powers, Doug Waugh

Alex had an awesome shot-on-video VHS feel to his film that I really liked, plus a lot of violence. He was a good friend of Doug's, so we decided to put his short in the anthology.
He also recently directed/wrote a feature film that I starred in among a few other familiar faces called Sadistic Eroticism, here is a link to the IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2217802/

Official synopsis for it states "A steamy, raunchy, horror/comedy, in the style of a classic, campy, straight-to-video 1980's horror movie. The film tells the story of a threehundred year old, Hungarian vampire/succubus disguised as a female high school teacher. The teacher seduces all of her small-minded popular students, and then possesses them to kidnap all the school sluts with the intention of draining and drinking their blood, in order to retain her erotic beauty. The only people that can stop her reign of terror are three social outcast, and a psychotic janitor. Sadistic Eroticism is full of hilarious, politically incorrect and edgy humor, as well as steamy sex and slapstick violence."

Veronica Ricci, James Cullen Bressack

What can you tell us about Treasure Chest of Horrors II's cast?

I'm in the cast! hahaha so is Nick Clark from Hate Crime, and so is penthouse pet Veronica Ricci. We also have Miles Dougal and Joseph Frantz from CKY.

For a full cast list please visit http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2118760/

In Treasure Chest of Horrors II you also appear in the host segments as an actor. What can you tell us about James Cullen Bressack, the actor, and about being directed by Doug Waugh instead of calling the shots yourself?

James Cullen Bressack the actor is not a serious person, haha. I think acting is fun, but I'm not really good at it, unless I'm doing improv. I did however win a drama dept award in 7th grade, if that counts for anything haha. It was a lot of fun having Doug direct me. It's always interesting to see how someone directs, everyone has their own unique style. It's difficult for me not to be calling the shots tho, a lot of the time I have to bite my tongue, literally, so I don't tell people what to do when I'm not the director. I'm just so used to being the director haha.

Veronica Ricci

In the Treasure Chest of Horrors II-host segments, you act opposite porn star Veronica Ricci. A few words about her and working with her?

It was awesome acting with Veronica. She is a good friend of mine and the camera absolutely loves her. She is a very nice and funny person and great to work with. A dream to have on set for sure. Plus, she didn't get mad when I was doing a lot of improv.

As far as I know, while Treasure Chest of Horrors II is not even released yet, Treasure Chest of Horrors III is already in production. So what is planned for that one?

Treasure Chest of Horrors III is actually almost finished! just the host segments remain. This one is a little different tho, instead of an official host, it has more of a wrap around to tie everything together. It will also be the last Treasure Chest of Horrors film for a while, if not forever! Dun dun dun, hahaha! But yeah, Part III has already been picked up by Wild Eye Releasing and features segments from Doug Waugh, Shawn C. Phillips, Tara Emerson, The Cousin Bros, James J. Coker, and Shane Ryan [Shane Ryan interview - click here]. So as you can see a lot more directors as well.

The other, even bigger James Cullen Bressack-news though is that you are going to shoot a horror film in Thailand. Now how did that come about? And why Thailand to begin with?

The script that I wrote is very unique to Thailand and unique to Thai folklore. The only place it can be made is Thailand!

Also I will say here officially, the first time I say the title of the film, it's called Pernicious.

There is some info on the new website www.perniciousthemovie.com as well as some posters. You can also check out the official Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pernicious/430263560346476
There you can see some posters and such.

Lastly we have a Twitter: https://twitter.com/__Pernicious_

You can check all that out :)

I will also leave you with this:

“Internal visions three for three.
Why is it you do not ask about what you see.

7 souls in holy trinity”

That's a quote from the film ;)

So far you have been an indie-director - with all the trials and tribulations but also advantages that brings - but your Thai-movie will be fully financed. Does this at all change your approach to filmmaking?

Although I will have a larger crew and a much larger budget to play with, I am a very freeform hard working director, and that won't change. I will put my heart and soul into every project I direct, big or small, it's the same job and I'm gonna work my ass off!

Anything you can give away concerning cast yet?

Not yet. Sorry :(

Even beyond the Pernicious, any future projects you'd like to share?

I also wrote a script with JD Fairman [JD Fairman interview - click here] called Auteur that is being produced. Cameron Romero is slated to direct. As well as Dancing with Rip, which I am directing.
