Argentinian scientists have found out that the moon has been causing a
great deal of natural disasters of late, but since the rest of the world
don't believe this theory, the Argentinians have arrived at the conclusion
to send a secret missin to outer space to bombard and blow up the moon.
But the mission even starts off under a bad moon (excuse the pun): First
one of the missiles to blow up the moon won't launch, then the spaceship
is plagued by all sorts of malfunctions, and then the three astronauts get
into a fight which ultimately leads to astronauts Esteban (Alejandro
Urdapilleta) and Silvia (Alejandra Fechner) throwing their commander
(Gabriel Goity) out of the spaceship to let him float in space forever. Of
course, all the glitches in the system and interpersonal troubles are
caused by the moon which is not half as dead as one might think, and soon
an alien (Horacio Fontova) arrives on the spaceship, an alien that
resembles your typical Latin American womanizer way too much for comfort - and Silvia
falls for him in no time and ties Esteban up when he tries to warn her.
Somehow, Esteban manages to free himself and fight and defeat the alien,
who then leaves this plane of existence together with Silvia ... which is
when the commander of the spaceship returns from his spacewalk rather
unexpectedly - but the experience has made him a changed man, calm to the
point of apathy, friendly to the point of being annoying, and his eyes are
full of nothing - so when a missile from the UN approaches to shoot down
the moon-destroyer, he just does nothing, no evasive action, no nothing -
and our moon mission goes up in a crash. I like the concept of
this film, and its first few minutes are vaguely reminiscent of John
Carpenter's Dark Star, which is
never a bad sign - and then the film quickly deteriorates from being a
subtle sci fi comedy into being a loud-mouthed Latin American genre farce
that lacks all nuances and always goes for cheap jokes. Sure, there are a
few slightly amusing sightgags here and there, including an outer space
musical number, but overall this is just a
stupid and irrelevant comedy based on a clever concept, or in other words,
a film you don't really need to see.
