When friend (Willoughby Gray) of theirs loyal to King Richard is tried
in Nottingham and convited to a hanging, Robin Hood (Richard Greene) and
Will (John Dearth) set out to help him. But since only women are allowed
to enter town until the man is hanged (to avoid Robin's interference),
they dress up as - well, as women of course, and the guards let them pass
without problems. However, Robin and Will are soon found out anyways and
are thrown into a cell with the man they wanted to save. The Sheriff of
Nottingham (Alan Wheatley) wants to see them hanged right away, but the
Judge (Walter Hudd) decides to bring them to London instead, because they
would look good on his resume. This way though, he gives Robin just enough
time to make an escape with Will and their friend ... I suppose
it had to come ooner or later, a series like Adventures of Robin Hood
just couldn't have lasted too long without an episode with its hero in
women's clothing. And this story is about as disappointing as stories of
this kind usually are: Richard Greene looks totally unconvincing as a
woman, yet has no problem convincing everyone of his assumed gender, so
much so that even a cook tries to get into his panties. Once Greene as
Robin Hood has become a man again, it's just your usual adventure story,
and in all, Ladies of Sherwood is nothing to get excited about.
