Suzanne (Malta) and Lenore are two lesbian artists who live together,
have been doing so for quite some time, and are deeply in love. Then
though, Suzanne has the (not so) glorious idea to visit Julia, an ex-lover
who now runs a modelling agency, and who is married to Peter desptie the
fact that he's gay and she's a lesbian. Soon, Suzanne, Lenore and Julia
are having a threesome that leaves noone (least of all the audience)
unsatisfied, but it soon becomes apparent that Julia and Lenore feel more
attracted to each other than they should ... and eventually the whole
thing leads to Lenore leaving Suzanne for Julia ...
In a at best loosely related story, Kiki finds herself strangely
unattracted by men. And more and more, she finds herself masturbating over
pictures of naked women. So ultimately she hooks up with prostitute Janice
and, for a price, has sex with her - which leaves Kiki totally satisfied
... but unfortunately, she also has fallen in love with Janice, and when
Janice doesn't want to have anything to do with Kiki unless she pays, Kiki
is left heartbroken - and ultimately kills herself by taking an overdose
of sleeping pills ...
Of course, on the surface, the plot of L'Amour de Femme is little more
than a feeble excuse to show naked female bodies, but if you dig a little
deeper, you will find softcore erotica, the Nick Philips-way: Very
elegantly (but not glossy) shot erotic scenes using a variety of
interesting camera set-ups, a fetishistic use of lingerie, no on-screen
sound but instead an interesting youndtrack and an off-screen narrator
commenting on the on-screen goings-on in a poingnant way - which all makes
this (like many of Philips' films) unique viewing in the realm of softcore
erotica.
