Savannah (Mariel Gomsrud) is a brilliant lawyer's assistant, and her
boss (David Novak) never tires of telling her just that. Heck, he even
fires his own nephew (Dave Ehrman) because there's talk he might sexually
harrass Savannah. But there's something seriously wrong with Savannah,
something that has to do with a leather birdmask she has hanging over her
bed, something that freaks her girlfriend Felicia (Danielle DiLorenzo) out
more than a bit. So Savannah eventually persuades her to go to a
psycho-therapist - but not your usual shrink (which Savannah has long come
to detest) but eccentric Doctor Dale (Neal Polister), who quickly wins her
over, even persuades her to undergo hypnosis - where it's revealed that
Savannah has been abused by her father in her childhood ... In the here
and now, Savannah is attacked by two thugs (William Christopher Ford, Lee
McDermott) who try to rape her, but saved by her neighour Eric (Phil
Alskasen). There doesn't seem to be much of a case there except for the
fact that Eric is nowhere to be found - so that makes police detective
Norsen (Alex Chase) curious. And soon, murders start to happen, among the
victims Savannah's boss, the harrassing nephew, and most disturbingly
Savannah's girlfriend Felicia. And the killer is wearing a leather
birdmask, like the one ... that has been hanging above Savannah's bed
until recently ... Everything seems to point to Savannah, and truth to
be told, addled brain or not, she's far from innocent ... but there's
something much more sinister going on ... Armynel is
quite an interesting psychothriller in the slasher tradition of the genre
inasmuch as it tries (and succeeds) to think outside the box, isn't only
interested in shock and suspense scenes (though it doesn't fail on those
accounts) but adds a fair amount of mystery to the equation - and if then
the whole thing is well written, nicely paced and carried by a good cast
(as it is in this case), you've got yourself pretty good genre
entertainment!
