Ash (Bruce Campbell) learns from Pablo (Ray
Santiago), who of recently has second sight, that Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo)
couldn't return from the netherworld last
episode because her body's possessed by a demon. So Ash drives
over to Ruby's (Lucy Lawless) to force her to make Kelly unpossessed and
give him her body. But they're cut short when the Dark Ones arrive who
have come through the rift in Ash's hardware store's basement, and who
kill Ruby and make Kelly's body unpossessed, so Ash, soon joined by Pablo
and his daughter Brandy (Arielle
Carver-O'Neill) can get away with Kelly's body as intended. An almost
happy ending, as the Dark Ones plan to take over earth, and their
intentions aren't noble ...
Now there are some really good laughs in this episode, but as
a whole this one shows above everything else what's not going right in Ash
vs. Evil Dead anymore, as the once enjoyably simple premise just
becomes more and more convoluted, and since this is the second to last
episode of the season (and series), pulling a new and relatively generic
threat out of the hat really works contraproductively here. Also Ash again
is too much straight hero rather than fallible hero-by-chance works
against character. That's not to say the episode isn't at all
entertaining, but it's rather the occasional sight gag that grabs one's
fancy than the thing as a whole.
