Some more Knights of Sumeria led by Zoe (Emilia Burns) show up at Ash's (Bruce Campbell)
doorstep to have him lead them in their fight against evil, and they want
him to accompany then through a rift to another dimension - something it
turns out Pablo (Ray Santiago) can open in Ash's hardware store's basement
with his new-found powers. However when one of the Knights (Colin Moy) is
sent through, he comes back changed and attacks the others, ultimately
killing all save for Zoe. In the meantime, Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) pays a
visit to Ruby Knowby (Lucy Lawless), and she's brought the Kandarian
dagger, to kill her for good. However, Ruby isn't one to easily be killed,
and eventually after Kelly puts up a tremendous fight almost leveling out
the fact that Ruby's more or less indestructible, it's Ruby who kills her
with the dagger - only to learn she could actually use Kelly to make Ash
do her bidding, so she revives her again ...
This episode has some great scenes, as Ash is forced to fight
one superbly grotesque two headed creature put together from two of the
Knights of Sumeria, and after being blown to pieces by a hand grenade,
Ruby actually puts herself together again - literally. But some cool
scenes don't make a story, as the whole thing feels a bit too random, as
on one hand when Kelly is killed one just knows she'll be revived again,
so that takes the drama from her demise. On the other, the whole rift
subplot seems to be just a new element thrown in at random (and late in
the game), and one can't really care about all the Knights dying as
they're hardly at all introduced. Sure, this episode has its moments (and
more than just those detailed above), but fails to really captivate its
audience.
