Yankee Jimmy (Guy Madison) runs a cattlefarm down in Mexico, and quite
successfully, too ... much to the dismay of Enrique Rios (Eduardo
Noriega), the cattle king of the region, so he does everything legal and
illegal to drive Jimmy out of business and get hold of his ranch. Enrique
is to marry Sarita (Patricia Medina), the daughter of the Alcalde (Julio
Villareal), but she of course has fallen for Jimmy. When Jimmy's cattle
starts disappearing, Jimmy suspects rustlers and quickly points a finger
at Enrique, but his ranchhand Pancho (Pascual García Pena) is not so sure
and thinks something evil from neighbouring Hollow Mountain has taken the
livestock, so he goes there to start his own investigations ... and is
killed by whatever it is. When his dad doesn't return from Hollow Mountain
, his son Panchito (Mario Navarro) goes looking for him, and Sarita, only
hours away from her marriage to Enrique, actually goes after him - and
they encounter a dinosaur that has obviously lived in Hollow Mountain, but
now it decides to go after Panchito and Sarita and causes a cattle
stampede ... and before you know it, everybody has come to Hollow
Mountain, and Enrique gets his just desserts at the hands (claws?) of the
dinosaur before Jimmy manages to drive it into the swamp where it drowns. True,
the blend of dinosaur movie and old fashioned Western sounds interesting,
even great (in a campy sort of way) as a concept, but The Beast of
Hollow Mountain is simply unable to deliver on that promise. Its
Western plot is just too clichéd and not even all that interesting or
engaging, and seriously lacking in action apart from a couple of
fistfights, the dinosaur isn't even introduced into the story until almost
an hour into the film (which runs a mere approximate 75 minutes), and the
dinosaur finale simply lacks excitement - all of which makes this film a
disappointment on all accounts.
