Yuan Yuan (Wong Ling) is the spoiled brat daughter of a local chief,
Shiah - but actually she's also the mysterious swordswoman who, in various
disguises, is killing off the chief's allies, as she is secretly trained
by Master Duh and supported by her gouverness. Ultimately, Master Duh
tells Yuan Yuan to kill her father, which the girl at first refuses -
until the gouverness tells her Shiah isn't her real father but her
father's killer, who also killed the gouverness' husband and child, and
that Yuan Yuan has to take revenge. Suddenly, Yuan Yuan is full of hatred
for Shiah and hell-bent to kill him - while Shiah finds evidence in the
gouverness' room suggesting that she is the killer of his allies, and he
kills her. Ultimately, everything leads to a duel between Yuan Yuan and
Shiah, in which she ultimately manages to kill him, only to then have an
emotional breakdown, because after all, he brought her up as his own. And
as if that wasn't enough, Shiah's son then kills her, thinking her to be
an evil assassin, only to then recognize her as the girl he all those
years thought to be his sister - so it all ends in tears. Competently
made and rather entertaining swordsplay movie, with a finale that puts the
emphasis on emotion rather than action. Nothing special but totally
watchable nevertheless.
