Amanda (Deann Baker) is 56 ... but doesn't look a day older than 25 (if
even), thanks to a special (experimental) treatment by all powerful Frank
Stein Industries, who have not only made her physically young again but
also cured her from some terminal illness. In return she has become the
spokesperson for FSI. Life couldn't be better, until one day, during a
date with her (compared to her real age) young lover Lucas (Rich Edward),
she finds some rashes on her neck, rashes that don't seem natural, that
seem to have to do with her treatment. Amanda is quick to send Lucas
away and call FSI for assistance, but she fails to trust the doctor (Tommy
Nowicki) they send her, and when he invites in a thug (Shawn Jolly) for
assistance, Amanda knows she's in trouble, as FSI aren't really concerned
about her health but just want to keep her out of the public eye, so she
can die without the public knowing ... but however weakened she is, when
the two drive her to FSI HQ, she manages to make a daring escape, returns
to her apartment and calls Lucas to get her out of town - and all the
while her condition worsens. When Lucas arrives at her place, he acts all
weird though and insists she stays put, arguing her apartment is still the
safest place - which puzzles her and raises some doubts ... but in her
condition, does she even have a choice but to trust him? Beauty
Secret's lead character was created in a small segment (a TV
commercial) in Epitaph: Blood
and Salt, and this featurette was conceived only as an
afterthought. But despite this a bit random origin and the fact that the
movie was shot in a single day, Beauty Secret is a rather nice low
budget sci-fi thriller, it's well-paced, has suspense in all the right
places, enough action to keep one of the edge of the seat - and Deann
Baker gives a wonderful performance that really holds the film together. Pretty
good, really! And if this has made you at all curious (and it
should have), you can see the movie for free (100% legit) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHiJrjgg9UU&feature=youtu.be
