Nora's (Molly Peyton) whole life has revolved around ice hockey, so much
so that she has started training herself up to professional level. She's
25 now though, and while she has had some success in minor leagues she
still has to earn her money dowking at a local ice rink. And her mother
(Sonia Satra) wishes she'd reconsider her life choices and start working
at the local relator's (Charles Hubbell) - a thought that Nora absolutely
abhors. Today though is the most important day of Nora's life, draft day,
and if she's picked by a major team Nora would be set ... well, maybe not
for life but for a handsome few years - and that's exactly the day her mum
sets up an intereview for her with above realtor. So that's discouraging
enough, and even more so are the constant naggings of a former hockey
crack who never made it (Jenna House) - and more and more Nora feels that
the only people truly in her corner are her colleague at work (Tommy Self)
and her sister (Nikki Leigh) And thanks to them, she feels she's
strong enough to get through draft day. But will that enough to attract
interest of any of the major teams. And if she misses out on what might be
her last chance, what's she to do then?
Now I won't lie, I'm not a big fun of sport dramas, and I couldn't care
less about hockey on top of that - amd yet I found this film so touching
that I almost shed a tear or two, because it really wasn't about sports at
all but about the choice of following one's dreams or leading a
comfortable, dull life, and how the former is a road riddled with
obstacles and sheer disappointments - and whoever ever had a dream and
just refused to let go will be able to relate to Nora's emotional journey
no doubt - and it's quite apparent that the writers/directors could. And
that coupled with a relatable cast and a suitably subtle directorial
effort makes this a rather worthwhile drama for sure.
