Edward (Thomas Mendolia) lives his life at his mother's (Susan
Adriensen) house as a happy recluse ... until he's informed his cousin
Berenice (Cheryl Koski) is going to live with them. Now Berenice was
Edward's first love when they still were children, but when they first
kissed, she bit him ... and ever since, he has become obsessed with her
teeth. Now Berenice is terminally ill, she is hit by sudden feelings of
faintness more and more ffrequently, has cataleptic fits, and it becomes
clear that she was sent over here to die - and despite having been deadly
against Berenice's coming, Edward quickly falls in love with her (and vice
versa) and takes care of her - and the more she slips away, both
physically and mentally, the stronger (but also weirder) he gets - and her
ultimate death totally throws him off the edge ... Berenice
is a rather chilling and suitable weird little movie that beautifully
captures the descent into sanity central to so many of Edgar Allan Poe's
short stories (Berenice included) as well as their general
morbidity via clever direction and editing, a refusal to give in to turn
the story into pure spectacle, and of course a great ensemble cast. Berenice
is part of the horror anthology Creepers that can be ordered via http://www.creepersfilm.com/
