For no apparent reason, Jenny (Heather Baker) is arrested and thrown in
a very special jail, where the Interrogator (Julie Strain) takes
great pleasure in taking sexual advantage of her and her co-convicts,
while only questioning them about things without any meaning to her or the
others. Soon though, Jenny discovers she has a sort of guardian angel on
her side, Big Sister (Allison Johnson), who actually turns out to be a
ghost. Eventually, the Interrogator is gone, and a man (William Smith)
takes over the interrogations. From him, Jenny at least learns what all
this is about, a certain book in her possession which will eventually turn
out to be the Anarchist's Joke Book (of all titles). Jenny learns
from Big Sister that the man is suffering from an oedipus complex, and she
uses this against him. Eventually, Jenny manages to escape with two other
girls, but one of them turns out to be a traitor, the other is shot. Jenny
is kept alive by the Big Sister, but then she runs into her boyfriend Joe
(Nicholas Celozzi) only to learn that he has tipped off the authorities. This
film, a bit of a low budget erotic and trashy version of 1984 and Fahrenheit
451, could have been interesting: There are several elements in there
that basically require a satirical approach, there are situations of
anarchic comedy, and there is a certain weirdness to the plot as a whole
that this could have become a decent yet far out sci fi comedy. Instead
though, script and direction focus on the erotic and the action aspects of
the story and show a complete disregard for the political and satirical
undercurrents, making this pretty much a routine low budget flick. Not the
worst film I've ever seen, not by a longshot, as some of the unkept
promises at least shine through - and many pretty girls get naked -, but
not a memorable film either.
