Mr. Bond (Tom Alter) is an eccentric writer who has no problems
spending a small fortune on a broomstick just because "it has
character". Once the broomstick's in the house though it doesn't take
long until a black cat takes up residence at his place - and Mr. Bond
doesn't even like cats. But whatever Mr. Bond tries to get rid of the
animal, he fails to succeed. And for some reason, the cat seems to be
especially drawn to the broomstick. Then there's a knock on the door, and
it's one Miss Bellows (Shernaz Patel), who seems to be even more of an
eccentric than Mr. Bond, and she asks if he has seen her cat (the very
black cat who won't leave Mr. Bond), and also seems weirdly drawn to the
broomstick - if for very sinister reasons ... Even if The
Black Cat tells a very simplistic story, it's a great joy to watch:
It's directed with quite some panache and eye for detail, the camerawork
is nothing less than beautiful, the performances are likeably
over-the-top, and the film as a whole is wonderfully light-footed to
easily find a place in everyone's heart.
