To save the cpace colony Lindor from being taken over by the
federation, Blake (Gareth Thomas) decides to put its overthrown
president Skaroff (T.P.McKenna) back into power, but when he & Cally
(Jan Chappell) arrive at his castle somewhere on an insignificant planet
where he lives in exile, they find a broken man, living in memories,
& wouldn't it be for his daughter Tyce (Carinthia West), they
wouldn't even get him from there, despite the fact that the federation
practically holds him prisoner. But back on Blake's ship, The
Liberator, things aren't all dandy either, as by trickery a gang of
smugglers led by Tarvin (Marc Zuber) has gained access to the ship &
taken the crew - Avon (Paul Darrow), Vila (Michael Keatring) & Gan
(David Jackson) prisoner -, while fellow crewmember Jenna (Sally
Knyvette ) has decided to change sides, having herself once been a
smuggler & former lover of Tarvin. But of course in secret she
still helps Blake & company to overcome Tarvin, & in the end
even Sarkoff abandons his apathy & joins in the fight, effectively
shooting Tarvin, & now obviously being ready to become president
again. Mediocre episode of the series, that unfortunately
falls into 2 parts that only have loose connections to each other. &
while the first story, that of the fallen & disillusioned, but at
the same time cheated politician, does hold quite some interest &
originality, the story about the smugglers having taken over The
Liberator is just standard sci-fi action fare, also hampered by the fact
that nobody really believes of all people Jenna to be a traitor - &
the fact that she isn't is given away way too soon, too. |
