Laz (Hansel Ramírez) is convinced that he's God's gift to music - but
unfortunately, nobody really believes in him, not his bandmates, not his
girlfriend (Fernanda Romero), not even his mum (Jackie Torres) - so he
travels to LA on his own to kickstart his career. But his luck (and money)
runs out at a gas station in the middle of nowhere on the way already -
when Seth (Aaron Gaffey), a well-dressed and well-spoken stranger offers
to help out in exchange for a ride to town. Laz naturally accepts quite
happily - but the stranger soon freaks him out, knowing more than he ever
ought to, and demanding more than seems right, too ... Visually,
there's little to complain about this film as it catches its desert
locations pretty much as impressively as can be and creates just the right
atmosphere in the process, something that's also carried by the film's
score and sound design. Plus, the cast's uniformly up to the task. Where
the film does fall slightly short though is its script, which relies too
much on genre clichés and fails to surprise in places where it could
have. The result is good genre entertainment still, just nothing to get
too excited about.
