A businessman is found murdered in a hotelroom, and the blonde bimbo
(Joyce Jameson) who has actually rented the room for him has way too weak
of an alibi to actually be involved in the crime. So Captain Burke (Gene
Barry) is called in to investigate, and he soon finds out the deceased was
playing poker for high stakes in the room with four businessmen (Burgess
Meredith, Oskar Homolka, Keenan Wynn, Richard Haydn), none of whom seems
particularly trustworthy. To complicate matters further, one of these
businessmen also has a daughter (Tammy Grimes) who might have been involed
somehow. And it's found out that the deceased's own business was about to
crash and he planned to make a getaway to Brazil, leaving the others with
the mess he produced over the years - so there's suspects aplenty, but the
real culprit turns out to be the dead man's secretary (Marlyn Mason), who
was in love with him but got infuriated when she learned he was planning
to leave for Brazil without him ... Routine TV thriller, quite
ok thanks to a pretty good cast of veterans, but by no means perfect
thanks to its over-convoluted and over-constructed plot.
