A group of people, mostly women, gather when the ashes of their
friend Dow (Sueangsuad Lawanprasert), along with the ashes ot 2 of their
friends, are scattered into a river. At this ceremony, her son wants to
find more about her life, especially her years in prison, about which
she wrote a book he only ignored. So it's flashback to the time she shot
her boyfriend who was then in bed with another woman & had to do
time in a woman's prison, where it's the usual mix ofpower-struggle,
lesbian sex & true friendship. When she comes out, she goes on to
live with 3 other women, Iad (Pitchanart Saichakorn), the prostitute
with the heart of gold who is looking for Mr. Right & saving enough
money to open a beauty salon, Aroon, a woman who can't decide whether to
marry a writer who she loves, or a rich businessman for the money, &
Malee (Patharwarin Timkul), who wants to shoot her lover, only to see
him shot by somebody else. Poor Iad, however, is killed before she can
make her dreams come true. Then it's for some reason a flashback to
woman's prison again, & the story about her 2 best friends there,
who died before being released, & whose ashes were scattered into
the river with Dow's at the beginning of the movie. Despite
an interesting topic & all the right ingredients - woman's prison,
lesbian sex, rapes, prostitutes, even occasional nudity & murders
aplenty - this film plays like some stupid feelgood-movie, which is bad
inasmuch as the film's own interpretation of the story is pretty cheesy
& goes like in prison Dow learned the true meaning of life &
friendship & grew a wise woman now the stoic center off all those
around her. |
