Their son Léo is on the verge of dying if he doesn't get an organ
transplant on the quick, but organs don't grow on trees of course, so
parents Greg (Malik Zidi) and Anne (Brigitte Urhausen) take a trip to some
Eastern European country to meet with organ traffickers (Darko Bulatovic,
Nikola Krminac, Zureb Tsitishvili, Irina Fedotova) to get their hands on
the organ needed. And pretty much after the transaction is concluded, a
woman, Lydia (Ludia Indjova) storms the place and shoots the traffickers
dead - because she's the mother of the (now dead) girl the organ for Léo
was taken from. And she's so overcome with anger that she also wants to
kill Greg an Anne, figuring them part of the problem (with justification
of course). Greg and Anne manage to escape into a nearby forest, find a
house to hide in, but then got locked in with somebody or some thing, and
they realize a woman mad for revenge isn't even their biggest problem
anymore ...
Now Child offers an unusual approach to things, it starts out as a psycho
drama, eventually becomes a revenge thriller before it settles for
straight horror (that's never fully explained away by the way - which
works for the film), and it has a cautionary tale coda. And why this at
all works is because the film doesn't miss a beat between these genre
shifts, keeps its characters constant and their objectives clear. And add
to this a very effective directorial effort and a solid cast, and you're
in for a genre treat for sure.
Child will be in UK cinemas from October 2nd 2026.
