The Chubbies are an evil alien race who enter people anally to take over their bodies and ultimately blow their stomachs open. Three of them made it onto the planet Snerd, where sex is a crime, and where they were captured, tried and condemned to death. However their lawyer Cass (Brian Papandrea), who believes it was unfair to condemn them after the laws of a planet they simply couldn't be aware of, helps them escape, and only then realizes they are simply evil creatures, no matter what planet they're on ... but by then they've already landed on earth, and on Halloween night, too, and are already looking for people to enter anally. When Cass, now an official Chubby hunter from planet Snerd, arrives shortly thereafter, they are already busy creating havoc, and it's up to Cass to prevent the worst ...

Tom (Michael Soave) wants to throw a private Halloween party at his boss's (Mike C. Hartman) bowling alley - behind the boss's back of course - and the only downside is that the place will be shut down at 11 till the next morning, so nobody can enter or leave - but hey, if it's a good party, why would anyone want to leave? Thing is, two of Tom's friends (Patrick L. Dear, Ashley Marie Short) have already been entered by the Chubbies when they show up, and later create mayhem among Tom's friends. And when Cass arrives later, Tom's not too hot about that either as he blows away the brains of one of his friends (who was a Chubby host of course) and makes oput with the girl (Kathleen Kelly) Tom has the hots for - so everything's set for a truly chaotic Halloween.

Lloyd Kaufman can be seen as then current president Ronald Reagan (the film's set in 1986) in this one.

Now let's be very precise here, Chubbies is not exactly subtle entertainment (my synopsis above might have given some hints already) - and it doesn't set out to be ... and that doesn't make it a bad movie by a longshot! Sure, the movie's humour at times is crude, not all jokes are original, and do be prepared to be grossed out at times - but especially if you're into 1970s and 80s science fiction, monster and horror movies, you wil find so much in this one to love you'll forgive the constant anal references, as it was obviously by a bunch of people who understood and loved those movies and TV shows of old (and the Critters-movies, TV's Doctor Who and Blake's 7, Labyrinth and of course Alien readily spring to mind, but there are countless others), and went to some trouble to recreate that era, and make fun of it in a way that doesn't just make fun of those films' and shows' shortcomings but also to celebrate what (like the irrestistible practical effects) made them so great.

Now have to be honest here, probably not a movie for everybody, but genre fans, especially with an 80s bias, should get a total kick out of this one :D
