It all starts with a documentary that Steve (Jack Davenport) watches
together with his girlfriend Susan (Sarah Alexander), a documentary that
eventually touches the need of men to masturbate - which brings about an
embarassing moment which Steve tries to cover up by whistling.
... a few days later, when Susan's parents (Wanda Ventham, James
Woolley) come for dinner, the analogy of whistling & masturbating has
taken a life all of its own, & soon enough Steve has totally ruined
the dinner conversation always confusing the 2 & in the end throws
Susan's parents out when her father (referring to whistling) mentions that
he might in the evening be "too tired to pucker", which eh
(referring to masturbation) hears as "too tired to fuck her".
But when everybody has realized the mistake & wants to make up with
each other, Mariella Frostrup, the tv announcer Steve has always had
erotic fantasies about, happens to find his mobile phone in her bag on
live tv (actually, Steve's crazy ex Jane [Gina Bellman] dropped it in
there, but noone knows it yet) - which doesn't really save the situation,
since Susan knows about his fantasies ...
Only a few days later, when Susan's mother has examined the gift he
gave her - actually a vibrator his friends Patrick (Ben Miles) & Jeff
(Richard Coyle) have given him for a completely different reason -, is she
reconciled with her daughter's boyfriend.
An episode that definitely has its funny moments, but much of the basic
conflict - Steve thinks he is discussing masturbtion with his girlfriend's
parents - is a little far-fetched, which brings the episode down a bit.
