Cool as can be, outlaw Connor (Gavin Drew) sits
at a table in a saloon having beer, awaiting what might be his destiny, a
marshal (Diego Torres) who has unsuccessfully trailed him for years and
only now caught up with him. The marshal's the polar opposite of Connor,
he's nervous, twitchy, full of anger, and has problems to keep his
feelings under control. But then again, he has the upper hand, as he's the
one with the gun he refused to hand over to the barmaid (Izzy Tiska) upon
her request, so he feels in total control. But would Connor really act
that cool if he hadn't an ace up his sleeve?
If you like westerns, then this one's for you - and not for its beautiful
landscapes, fancy horse riding or exciting shoot-outs, action setpieces or
any of this ilk, as Cowboy Connor has none. It's really
just two (sometimes three) people around a table, with even all background
blacked out. But what the script delivers is an exciting genre miniature,
entirely based on dialogue, which the cast delivers with Old West charm.
And what makes this work is a definite feel for the genre and its standard
situations, but without just going for clichés or giving the story a
post-modernist spin. Instead we're treated to snappy dialogue that steadly
builds up tension that's finally released in its final plottwist, all
making this a very fine watch.
