Christian (Dawson James), an ambitious businessman who has grown a bit
bored by the day-to-day operations at his job though spends another night
in another hotel going over another column of numbers when his boss Robert
(Nicholas Vince) calls, urging him to "live a little" - and call
the escort whose card has been conveniently placed in Christian's hotel
room. When the escort (Sarah Cragg) arrives though, it's more than just
sex that she offers, she also sucks blood from Christian's neck ... The
next day, when he awakes, Christian can hardly remember what has happened,
but he is a little concerned about the bitemarks on his neck - and going
out in the sun physically hurts him. Now this could all be due to the wild
night last night, but when he wants to eat in a restaurant, and all he can
think about is blood, this is worrying. However when he's mugged and takes
out the two assailants single-handedly, he sees something has changed for
the better - if it wasn't for his urge to drink their blood. So gradually,
Christian must come to the realization that he indeed is a vampire - but
why then would his boss have been so keen on making him one ... The
Day After Dark is an elegantly made modern vampire tale that plays
with genre conventions in a charming way and manages to tell the now
age-old vampire tale from a slightly different perspective and with a
surprise twist at the end. And add to this some pretty cool performances,
sexy and bloody bits in all the right places, and even dashes of dark
humour, and you've got yourself a nice little genre tale.
