Realtor John Dante (Mike Pfaff) desperately tries to sell a house
entrusted to him which he has already tried to sell three times ... with
disastrous results:
- The Morning After: Everybody parties at Jerry's (Zack Fahey)
house - everybody but Jerry that is, who prefers to examine some
cocoon he has found, a cocoon that could house an unknown new lifeform
- well, if only the guy had partied as guys at his age are supposed
to, he wouldn't have helped a lethal monster make its way to our world
...
- Father Land: Brad (James Howell) wants to provide the perfect
home to his son Robbie (Michael Brouillet), a traumatized Iraq-vet -
but the symptoms Robbie shows might go beyond simple PTS ...
- Freddie and the Demons: Freddie (Zack Fahey again) is the
bandleader/lead singer of a metal band, and he rents the house for
himself and his band to record an especially dark album, influenced by
the dark past of the place ... but the house makes him see demons and
turns him into a homicidal maniac ...
Having had no luck to sell the house so far, John and his wife Sarah
(Marguerite Insolia) have an open house afternoon (where she also tries to
sell kitchen knives to keep herself and her husband afloat, financially) -
which is when the past of the house catches up with John - in a rather
unpleasant way.

Dead on Appraisal is definitely a mixed bag of goodies, blending
1980's style creature feature, serious psycho horror and definitely
un-serious horror farce (including Muppets-like demons) into
one nicely framed anthology - and for this film, this concept works just
fine, because the individual segments are all nicely done, rely on solid
scripts, and don't outstay there welcome but concentrate on the tension
and shocks of their narrative, and the framing story does manage to serve
as a good bridge between segments. Plus the effects work in all of the
stories might not spell millions of Dollars but looks like tons of fun.
And add to that a competent cast, and you've got yourself an entertaining
piece of genre entertainment. No masterpiece perhaps, but an extremely
enjoyable party movie.
Recommended!
