Now I think it's no exaggeration to say that 2020 won't be the
favourite year of all that many people, what with a worldwide pandemic,
the chaos that Brexit has become, race riots in the USA with an
irresponsible president only fuelling the situation, a totally disgusting
presidential campaign, and an American president clearly voted out of
office who just refuses to admit defeat. That all in mind, the title of
this movie will very probably ring true to a lot of people. And the film
(for hopefully one final time) reviews the year in a mockumentary way,
mixing actual newsreel footage in proper context with spoofing bits,
featuring among others Samuel L. Jackson as a journalist, Hugh Grant as a
historian with a tendency to get things mixed up and say the wrong thing,
Lisa Kudrow as a White House spokeswoman who just straight out denies
everything, and Tracey Ullman as the British Queen. Now for
those who have lived throuth 2020, this film holds many carthatic laughs,
as even if the movie's not exactly subtle, it's mostly on the point, but
it's doubtful that it will age all that well, as many of the smaller
topics touched upon will quite probably be forgotten in six months tops
and then only seem bizarre and non-sensical. In all, it's a really good
watch around the New Year 2021 to be reminded for one last time what a
shitshow 2020 was, but at a later date will be little more than a
curiosity with its humour quickly dating ...
