Elise (Elizabeth Cullen) has been brought up a Mormon, but has left the
church 10 years ago. Thing is, she remembers hardly anything of that time.
She's sure something traumatic has happened to her back when, but couldn't
put her finger on what for the life or it. Thing is, she has also had
blackouts of late that of late have intensified in length and severity,
blackouts during which she does inexplicable things. Now this is enough to
worry her and her boyfriend Adam (John Kim), so they decide for her to
undergo an experimental drug therapy performed at the baptism house of her
former Mormon community, and by Hyrum (Robin Goldsworth) and his mother
Alma (Genevieve Mooy), two people from back when Elise can no longer
remember. Now the therapy does wonders for Elise, she feels better than in
years and even re.discovers her sex drive she thought gone long ago, much
to Adam's delight. Thing is, instead of going home right away, Elise, Adam
and their chaperone Gwen (Mia Challis), Elise's best friend, decide to
have a little spnontaneous party and then find their car battery drained.
Now this is bad, as Alma claims by healing Elise something evil was
released. This might be true or not of course, but the longer they stay,
the more Elise remembers, specifically about her lover Clara (Luca Asta
Sardelis) and how their relationship ended - and her role in this wasn't
exactly flattering -, and she also finds out that Adam and Gwen have long
had an affair behind her back - so that, combined with the "evil" out
there, grants a gore-filled finale ...
A very nice piece of character-based horror that might be a bit on the
slowburn side of things but tells a very compelling story that way, a
story that doesn't give its ending away but is only pieced together by the
by. Now combine that with a directorial effort heavy on atmosphere and a
more than able cast playing relatable characters and add a good deal of
mystery to the mix, and you've got yourself a pretty awesome piece of
horror for sure.
