There's one thing that has been bugging 8 year old Simon's (Valerio
Santosuosso) parents (Maurizio Rapotec, Mary Wall) quite a bit - they are
not his real parents, he's only adopted. Sure, they've done everything to
make him feel like family, bought him everything he could have dreamed of,
but eventually he has to know ... so why not via a letter delivered by
Santa Claus (Ulf Kusdas) himself? Thing is, Simon has long developed his
own ideas why he doesn't feel right in the place he is, and he blames it
all on disenchantment ... so when Santa comes to visit him personally, he
figures it's for something else (and entirely more sinister), like having
his revenge on society ... The Eve is the perfect film
for every day but Christmas, probably, as its critique of the
commercialisation of that day (and of society at large) hits hard, and the
film's perfectly cynical in its approach - but what really brings this
movie to life is its very associative rather than linear approach coupled
with its strong visuals with their at times disturbingly perfect colours
and such. Disturbingly interesting, really!
