4 college girls - virginal and devout Lily (Katherine Browning), her
lesbian sister Lori (Ashley Love), Lori's bitchy girlfriend Pam (Leah
Verrill), and good-natured slut Bianca (Tiffany S. Walker) - move into a
nice little house that against all odds they can afford easily. Now the
house owner Devlin (Mike Campbell) might be a little creepy, but hey,
he'll drop by only once a month to pick up the rent, so ... At first,
everything seems perfect - sure, the girls have their fights, and
especially Lily has a hard time with her house mates having sex pretty
much all the time, and noisily so, but hey, these are things relatively
easily dealt with. That Devlin seems to have installed hidden cams all
over the house might already be a bit more difficult to swallow, right?
But when Bianca is found murdered in her room and nobody knows who could
have done it, well, that's another cup of tea altogether. And then the
other three girls are locked into the house, with virtually no way out ...
and they have to come to the realisation that their landlord is more than
a little creepy - he's a supernatural being collecting souls. And his
method is not so much taking out those loaded with guilt like Bianca -
whom he only killed to gain enough power to get full access to the house -
or bitchy Pam, but to corrupt the innocent like Lily and Lori ... and now
he tries to get them to kill Pam. The price: Being released from the
house - but under what conditions ... 4 Dead Girls is a
clever blend of typical slasher with all the expected ingredients and
supernatural horror with all its convoluted undercurrents. And all of it
done on a very low budget - and in the case of 4 Dead Girls, the
relative lack of funds works 100% for the movie, as the limitation to one
location creates the needed atmosphere while the relative lack of special
effects helps focus on the story instead of spectacle - and let's face it,
the very human demon in this movie without all the CGI mumbojumbo (even if
there are isolated incidents here and there) comes across a lot scarier
than anything a computer can think up. Add to it a healthy amount of
violence and a bit of nudity, and you'll find yourself pleasantly
entertained.
