Gangster Jang (Ma Dong-seok) and cop Jung (Kim Mu-Yeol) have long been
at odds with one another, as Jung desparately tries to shut down Jang's
gambling dens, even if Jang bribes his higher-ups to be safe from raids of
all sorts. But then Jang is brutally attacked by a serial killer known as
K (Kim Sungkyu). Being used to being attacked, Jand survives the attack
and manages to fight off the assailant - but now he becomes prime witness
of the police, with Jung working on the case. So the two of them make a
deal, it's truce between cop and gangster until K is captured, and they're
working hand in hand - off the record of course. This collaboration goes
all but smoothly, as both men have massive egos they can't always control,
but it's a case of what needs must - especially after Jung is removed from
the case, which only makes him more adamant than ever to capture K - and
fortunately enough, the kidnapping case he's been assigned to gives him
the final clue to get on K's track. And soon it's a race between Jung and
Jang who gets his hands on K first, as Jang wants to have first-hand
revenge on K, while Jung still believes in the justice system ... So
ok, the premise of this film might be a bit far-fetched - but dang, this
still is an exciting movie, with tons of excellently staged chases, fights
and shoot-outs, and while the story may be far-fetched, it's told in a
believable, logical way, and fleshed-out, fallible but relatable
characters make it work. Now add to that very fast paced storytelling and
an excellent cast, and you've got yourself a winner for sure.
