Obviously, female assassin Radinov was not killed at the end of last
episode (click here)
because she is quick to leave bounty hunters Rally and May a promise
she'll be back. Rally and May would love to take her down for good, but
they don't even know where to start. Instead they accept an invitation to
be honoured by campaigning senator Haints for their heroic battle against
the illegal arms dealers ... While Rally and May are already preparing
for the celebration, two of their cop friends find out that the leak
within the force is no other than commissioner Black himself, but when
they show up at his house, they find him dead, killed by Radinov - but
they also find out that the man Black was in league with was no other than
senator Haints ... which turns the celebration Rally and May are invited
to into a deadly trap. For Radinov, her fight with Rally and May has
turned personal, so she has lost almost all consideration for her allies
and tries to shoot the two while they are on stage with the senator, even
if that means also shooting him. Rally and May manage to escape of course,
and his bodyguards take care of the senator. Next, Radinov lures Rally and
May into a building under construction, and she manage to gravely injure
Rally, too, but May comes to the rescue, drags Rally away and lures
Radinov through a boobie-trapped labyrinth of hallways until she blows her
to Kingdom Come - or does she? In the meantime, Rally and May's cop
friends manage to cheat a confession on live television out of Haints that
pretty much puts him in handcuffs on the spot. Everything ends happily it
seems, but then Radinov re-appears out of nowhere, and due to her injury,
Rally can't draw quick enough to fight her off on her own - but a shot
fired by cop Bill Collins, the man who dragged Rally into all of this,
wards off Radinov's attack, and then Rally manages to empty her entire
magazine into the Russian assassin, taking her out for good - at last. Mainly,
this episode is of course an extended chase-and-shootout scene, but it's
one of the best chase-and-shootout scenes ever, extremely dynamic and fast
paced, full of little surprises, making great use of its locations and
never missing a beat. Of course, the plot that carries this scene is less
than special, but while it's an old story, it's also well-told and leaves
at least some room for irony along the way. Nice character designs and
detailed backgrounds add to the very satisfying effect of this final
episode of Gunsmith Cats.
