Guido has a strange obsession with the planet Mars - which has less to
do with actual science (though he has a telescope and masturbtes while
looking through it) and more with the campy TV-series Queen of Mars,
which features the scantily clad Martian Queen Aurora. Eventually, he
meets a hooker who's the splitting image of Aurora - except for her hair,
but that can be fixed with a blond wig - and whom Guido takes home to have
sex with. The next day, all that's left from Aurora is her wig, but two
gouvernment agents come looking for her. Guido has to realize though she
has gone for good, and the more he investigates, the more he has to come
to the conclusion she has never existed - especially when at his
landlady's he finds candid camera footage of his night with Aurora that
only shows himself in a blond wig ... In an accident, he kills his
landlady and her lover. Later, Guido becomes friendly with his across
the street neighbour, but sex with her turns into a disaster because she's
nothing like Aurora and everything like the villainess on her TV-show.
Still, she doesn't give up on him, until she watches the candid camera
video of him pretending to be Aurora and finds the army body he is
constantly referring to dead in his freezer. But by that time he has gone
totally mad and homicidal and threatens her with a knife, until one of the
gouvernment agents he has just attacked knocks him out ... Guido's
across-the-street neighbour takes over his appartment and out of curiosity
takes a peek through the telescope ... and starts to masturbate. A
very mad film in a very good way: starting with the campy Queen of
Mars-TV-show, everything in El Hombre que Hablaba con Marte is so
over-the-top in a deliberate way (and without resorting to fart-jokes)
that one can't help but being sucked into the story until its surprise
ending, that in a sense turns the whole thing topsy turvy. Add to this a
directorial effort that despite lack of any real budget knows the genre it
references (without becoming a copycat job), and you've got one nice, mad
piece of entertainment.
