  • A woman (Charlotte Armstrong) is waken up by noises, but can't find anybody in the house - only box full of creepy toys that just shouldn't be there ...

  • Edward: A psychiatrist (Artem Mishin) tries to cure his patient (Nick Frangione), but while he's trying to find access to him, he has to realize he has found access to his creepy worlk instead ...
  • The Quiet: A hearing impaired girl (Jenni-Lea Finch) walking home alone from the bus station through the country side finds herself followed by a blue van. She might only be imagining this, but on the run from whoever-it-is, she loses her hearing aid, her best link to reality, and her nightmare really starts.
The soundscapes in this segment are pretty amazing and deeply unsettling.
  • Merry Little Christmas: Ever since Cristina (Marcarena Gómez) has witnessed her father (Jacob Torres) abusing and brutally torturing her mother (Blanca Rivera) many years ago, the two women act weirdly every Christmas Eve. Cristina's cousing and soulmate Miguel (Jan Cornet) tries to help them break through this ... only to realize the woman are suffering from a trauma that can't be talked away by a few kind words.
The surrealist finale of that one really packs a punch.
  • The Deviant One: A man invites his neighbour over to a drink - then attacks and kills him, rapes his corpse and ... and that's only the beginning.

The Horror Network Vol. 1 is a very fine collection of horror shorts from all around the world (well, USA, the UK and Spain) which may have little in common, narratively, but which are all very well-made, and all rely heavily on atmosphere (though at least Merry Little Christmas and The Deviant One get quite visceral eventually), and all leave one with a feeling of unease - and that's of course what horror's all about!
