This time around, astronaut Tony Nelson (Larry Hagman) is busy with an
experiment to desalinate sea water, which bores the hell out of his genie
Jeannie (Barbara Eden) - so she just wishes her great great grandfather
(J. Carrol Naish) here, who succeeded in the same experiment 2000 years
ago. And the old man is willing to help, too, but for a price ... which is
unaffordable for Tony under the best of circumstances (among other things
the Statue of Liberty, the American mint and Elizabeth Taylor). However,
Jeannie knows one or two things about great great grandfather he'd prefer
her not to tell his wife ... so suddenly he wills in to give the formula
for free - and problem solved, one would think ... except that his formula
relies solely on the seed of a plant that is extinct since 1 AD ... Storywise,
this episode doesn't offer terribly much, and that it's interrupted by a
few slapstick interludes does not help its buildup ... but to see Barbara
Eden, Larry Hagman and J. Carrol Naish interact to hilarious results in
this one makes up for simply everything.
