Because her master, astronaut Tony (Larry Hagman), just won't marry
her, his genie Jeannie (Barbara Eden) decides to accept a proposal from
his best friend Roger (Bill Daily) instead - upon her mother's (Lurene
Tuttle) advice, and only to make Tony jealous of course. But then Roger
wants to meet her parents and come to her place for a visit, so Jeannie
magically creates herself a house on the empty spot across the street from
Tony's and also makes up a couple (Avis Scott, Oliver McGowan) she has
seen in TV-advertisements to act as her parents - of cours, that couple
only talks in commercial slogans of course ... Thing is, the empty slot
across the street has been bought by NASA physician Dr Bellows (Hayden
Rorke), so when he comes along, Jeannie has to see that the house and the
parents and everything vanishes in a flash, leaving Roger with a glass of
Martini on the empty lot and Dr Bellows once again thinking he has lost
his mind. In a comical side note, Roger thinks he has had too much to
drink (so he ended up where he did) for Jeannie ever to talk to him again,
and the attempt to make Tony jealous has essentially backfired. There
are some really good ideas in this episode that's not exactly especially
strong in the storytelling department, but for example the parents from
the TV ads are just priceless - and there are other similar instances. Not
really one of the best episodes, admittedly, but sure to make you chuckle
at least.
