Mark, a teenaged, ambitious movie director, wants to win a horror film
competition with his latest movie, even if he might not be up to his
competition, equipment as well as experience wise - but still he manages
to motivate his friends (and actors) to reshoot the film after the first
version proved to be a bit on the dull side. For the night, Mark has set
his mind on editing the movies ... but then he hears sounds, sees things,
and eventually it becomes more and more evident to him that he's not home
alone. Just an illusion after working too hard on a horror movie or is
there more to it? A fun exercise in horror filmmakikng and
ironically also about horror filmmaking, Illusory is a film that
happily plays with hottor mainstays, lovingly quotes from genre classics,
creates suspense with quite some expertise, and even if you think you have
seen most of what's in this film somewhere else before (and intended
effect), the ending comes as an utter surprise. A pretty good effort by
a rather young filmmaker, actually.
