Sabina's (Rhoda Jordan) life has become a hell ever since she has started
to suspect her boyfriend Paul (Richard Caines) is cheating on her.
But not so much because of the mere fact that he is, but because ever
since she's been hearing the voices of another woman, Phentara, from
inside her mind, just as if she was possessed. She doesn't know who
Phentera is or what she wants, only that she drives her crazy. But she
does the sensible thing in a situation like this (ironically enough upon
Phentara's request) and calls a hypnotherapist, Kelly (Sherill Quinn) for
assistance. Now before too long, Kelly diagnoses a form of schizophrenia
and admits she's out of her league with this one, but Sabina as well as
Phentata (when Sabina's under) implore her to go on, leading her down a
path of jealousy and personal tragedy that might hit closer to home with
Kelly than she would have ever expected ... Made on a modest budget,
Intrusive is a very unassuming horror movie, there are no
grand setpieces, no jump scares, no fancy special effects or creatures -
in fact the movie's mostly dialogue ... but it works, thanks to clever
writing, including careful build-up, good dialogue and well fleshed out
characters, as well as the film's over-riding tension and a solid small
ensemble, all adding up to a very fine piece of low budget genre cinema.
