Mike (Phil Herman) isn't able to hold even a simple job down, first and
foremost due to anger issues - but there's one thing he's good at, and
that's car-jacking, and he usually robs and kills the car owners in the
process. Now Mike has a girlfriend, Kate (Nancy Feliciano), whose constant
nagging drives him insane - so one day he drugs her beer while she's in
the bath tub, and when she's passed out he slits her wrists and makes it
look like suicide. He freaks out though when detective Jackson (Patrice
Jackson) questions him about the thing and dares to ask whether it was
murder. From now on, Mike's on a revenge trip targeted at Jackson - and
soon enouch kidnaps and kills Jackson's sister Kris (Natalie White), then
calls Kris's boyfriend James (Barry Gaines) to mock him about it. Now both
Jackson and James go mad about this and swear revenge - without yet having
tied Mike to the case -, but their threats only lead to irresponsible
behaviour which leads to Jackson being suspended from the force. Then Mike
kills his neighbour (Debbie D) during sex and makes it look like an
accident - which of course gets Jackson suspicious, but also so mad that
he almost kills Mike, and that in turn diminishes any chances to ever work
on the case again. But he and James do so anyhow in private, and are
helped by a cop friend (Bryant Sohl), whom Mike eventually kills though.
Still, Jackson and James are getting closer and closer to Mike - but
without backup from the force, how will they be able to stop him?
Now Jacker was made in the early days of S.O.V. movies,
so one just can't expect a masterpiece, especially on a technical level,
since back when, the technology simply wasn't quite there yet in regards
to pretty much every aspect of filmmaking, from camera to sound to editing
equipment. But that said, Jacker still pulls of being a pretty
tight thriller that's well-structured with all the suspense, action,
violence and sexy bits in all the right places, and an ensemble cast solid
enough to carry the film. Sure, it helps to be a S.O.V. afficionado to
properly like this film for above reasons, but if you are, you're sure to
be well entertained.
