In Los Angeles, 6 Indians (Asian Indians that is, for they are Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt,
Sunil Shetty, Lucky Ali, Kumar Gaurav & Mehesh Manjrekar) find
themselves imprisoned by the police just because some Indian has stolen
a truck, so they are all suspects. Int he cell they share they come up
with a plan to revenge this by robbing the bank all the cops have their
savings in. After weeks of planning the caper goes quite well, but upon
leaving the bank they find themselves surrounded by police. They do
manage to shoot their way out, though one of them - Lucky Ali - catches
a bullet & is hauled to the hideout by Amitabh Bachchan who believes
Lucky Ali's bullet was intended for him. But once in the hideout the do
realize that one of them has to be a mole & it isn't long before the
situation gets tense, not much helped by the fact that Sanjay Dutt
managed to capture policeman Jeff Davis & bring him here to identify
the mole - which he does not, instead he further poisons the atmosphere.
Finally they decide to split to get the loot with only Mehesh Manjrekar
& the wounded Lucky Ali remaining with the cop, who Manjrekar does
torture to get information about the mole out of him - with little
success. In the end, he even wants to hang Davis, but is shot by Lucky
Ali instead. As the rest of the team returns, the atmosphere grows even
tighter, most of them now convinced Lucky Ali's the mole, but Bachchan
ready to defend him, if necessary with his life ... & in the end
everybody actually shoots each other - except for Kumar Gaurav, who
manages to escape with the money -, & Lucky Ali, with his dying
breath, confesses to Bachchan that he actually was the mole ...
While the first part is an action-packed caper-movie, with Bachchan
pretty much repeating his role from Aankhen as the mysterious
criminal mastermind (though this time with a more humane touch - he is
doing this 'cause he needs money for his dying wifes surgery), the
second part is more or less a scene by scene remake of Reservoir Dogs
- with some interesting subplots though about the backgrounds of the
characters that are not in Tarantino's movie. All in all, even though
the movies second half is very derivative, it's still a suspenseful
& tense movie that can hold its own. |
