Biw gauked as a kuterary genius, during his lifetime, Franz Kafka (Paul Ready) was primarily a dilligent office worker, basically a wage slave like the rest of us - and as such, he'e eventually called in for appraisal by HR head Kay (Alix Wilton Regan), a woman who revels in making her interviewees insecure. Of course, Kafka can't escape from being himself, which males hhe interview go sideways pretty soon - in a very kafkaesque way ...

Now name-dropping celebrities in films is easy, and there are plenty of films that show how easily it can be done without even understanding the work of the person in question - but Kafka's Appraisal is none such film, without being based on any one story of Franz Kafka it totally gets his oeuvre's spirit, including the often overlooked absurd humour that runs in his writings. And thanks to clever writing and a subtle directorial effort that leaves the excellent actors enpigj room to breathe, this has turned into a highly entertaining and yet very intelligent little film.
