Vampires and humans have co-existed at least since the time of the
inquisition (or at least then the thing called vampirism has become known
to man) - and since then the Church tries to destroy all vampires, but
with only limited success, and the less successful, the more the church
turned to absolute psychos, even people who don't give a shit whether
their prey is human or vampire, to track them down one by one and kill
them ... and the most elusive of the vampires has been Katherine (Tina
Grimm), a lovely blonde who like most vampires actually uses her powers to
help people more than hurt them, and her main victims are mostly scum whom
she teaches a lesson rather than kill them. Plus a vampire bite can be
highly erotic when administered right - as John (Andrew Schaefer) learns,
a guy recently left by his wife whom Katherine has picked up in a bar and
fallen in love with. Thing is, the Church sends two vampire hunters after
Katherine, Rooney (Michael Heggedus) and Andrea (Christa Johnston), a
reluctant couple in a fight who's more psycho than the other - a fight
Rooney wins easily when he blows Andrea to Kingdom Come before they have
even picked up Katherine's trail. But insane as he is, Rooney is also
mighty good at tracking, and before long, he has her tracked via John, who
apparently knows more about vampires than he lets on - a knowledge that
might make him a mere collateral ... Katherine is a fun
little genre film that turns the vampire genre onto its head and thus
makes it (if that's even possible) more creepy than it already is, pretty
much pitting the undead from lore against all-too-human depravity - and
the concept works out very well, as the film, despite not being
particularly gory per se, feeds on its gruesome imagination, keeps things
moving at a high enough pace without losing its characters in the process,
and some good central performances of course also help. Totally worth
your time!
