Silver and Golden very quickly become superstars at the stripper
circuit ... because they're mermaids - well sure, they look human, but
when even sprinkled with water, their legs transrofm into fish tails. Now
that's of course sort of brilliant, but they're not the fairy tale
mermaids of the storybooks, but also carnivourous beasts who need all the
help they can get to hide their crimes. Then though, Silver falls in love
with a human, and for his sake, he has her lower (fish-)body replaced with
a human one (even if that means murdering the person whose lower body
Silver wants first). But Golden is less than happy about her sister's
new-found human side, so she leaves no stone unturned to sabotage her
sister's relationship - which ultimately leads to utter chaos ... Above
all else, The Lure is one enjoyably mad film, it's mean, gory,
darkly humourous ... and it's also a musical - and hey, the music's pretty
cool, even. Now add to that a directorial effort that emphasizes on
atmosphere, doesn't play up the funny bits and knows when to go dark, and
some solid central performances, and you've got one cool movie!
