At a military facility, a man is killed while working on a top-secret
security computer called O.B.I.T.
Senator Orville (Peter Breck) - the good guy - investigates but
encounters red tape every step along the way, either by army Colonel
Grover (Alan Baxter) or by Doc Byron Lomax (Jeff Corey), head of O.B.I.T.,
who evades each and every of his questions.
But even withthe things he does find out, the senator is able to piece
together quite a horrible picture, as O.B.I.T. turns out to be a
surveillance computer that can spy on everyone at every time, looking
through the thickest walls or even metal with the highest of ease ... But
as if that wasn't enough, Orville also finds out that Doc Scott, former
head of O.B.I.T., has gone bonkers and is now in a sanitarium, endlessly
ranting on about monsters inside O.B.I.T. - and for some reason, Orivlle
takes him seriously ...
Finally, at a demonstration of O.B.I.T., the whole thing is revealed to
be a surveillance web set up by aliens, and Doc Lomax is revealed to be
one of the aliens ... and dies at the end of the story ...
This story starts out rather great, as a paranoia/conspiracy
theroy-thriller about a gouvernment installation running amok.
Unfortunately, at the end of the episode, the Outer Limits once again show
their true colours when O.Bi.I.T. is revealed to do the evildoing of some
aliens (read Communists here) and the image of the USA remains
untarnished. A pity, this could have been good.
