A man (Dan Palmer) finds himself blindfolded and tied to a chair,
hearing another man threatening him ... and when the blindfold is removed
and he finds his partner (Tom Gordon) facing him, he's not sure whether to
laugh or lose all hope, because you know, during some caper or other, he
has shot his partner's brother, has taken the loot (a.k.a. "the
package") in his possession and hid it - just because somebody
promised him his way out of the way of crime he's leading. Thing is, his
partner knows when he doesn't deliver the package, his boss will have both
their asses - so he will stop at nothing, least of all physical torture,
to force the location of the package out of him. Thing is, "the
package" is not just inanimate object but something truly threatening
... While The Package is very visceral and explicit at
times and certainly not for the faint of heart, it gets more of its actual
tension out of its buildup, its dialogue, its characters and of course the
actors at work, all supported by a direction subtle enough to give
everything room to unfold but never shying away from the nasty bits
either. And all this ... again, might not be for the faint hearted, but
for those in the right state of mind it's a near perfect torture gem!
