Since Holly (Kasey Lansdale) has had her baby, she has pretty much
withdrawn from all her friends and from the world by and large - to an
extent that Diana (Diana Porter) pays her an unexpected visit ... and she
finds things are in shambles: An eviction note is tagged to the door,
Holly's apartment is a regular filthy mess, and the stench is almost
overpowering. But worse than anything else is Holly herself, a half-crazed
wreck suffering from delusions and constant migrane, pretty much
postpartum depression driven to sad extremes ... and seeing Holly like
this, and especially hearing Holly's threats should she not leave right
away prompt Diana to dart in and look after the baby - which might have
been the exactly wrong thing to do ... Postpartum is a
delightfully macabre horror miniature that keeps its story to the basics,
for all the more effect - which is of course helped by a directorial
effort that reveals things only gradually, two actresses who really make
their roles their own, and of course the proper mean spirit to make it all
work. Maybe not an "easy" film for general audiences, but one
that will make a proper horror fan smile and shiver at the same time.
