Rico (Teguh Yulianto) is a typical womanizer, he's good-looking and
smooth-talking, but he also won't accept no for an answer. Then one day on
his way home, he meets a gorgeous young lady he takes back to his place -
where she turns out to be a demon who brutally kills him. A few years
later, young Marcia (Chintyara Alona) moves into the boarding house and
even into the room Rico was killed in - and the very first day, Rico, now
a demon, shows up and brutally rapes her. For some reason she doesn't let
that bother her too much, shows up at work the very next day, and soon she
falls in love with Andre, the company's goodlooking second-in-command,
even if that man seems to be crowded by other girls. The attacks of
demon Rico of course get more frequent, and at one time he even rapes her
in public, during a pool party, though the other guests seem to have no
idea what's going on. Eventually, Marcia is also impregnated by Rico and
has his demon baby. Ultimately, she is even possessed by Rico and seduces
and kills a few people, but then Andre comes to the rescue, and
fortunately he wears a stone around his neck that can be used to exorcise
Rico. Once the demon is gone, Marcia and Andre head off into a bright
future. This movie starts out great, at least in the eyes of a
trash lover, but once Marcia has been raped for the first time, it goes
downhill, and the problem lies with the film's narrative structure and
character development: My point is, rape alone is bad enough, but if you
are raped by a demon, that's almost bound to push you near the edge if not
over it - but Marcia just goes to office the very next day to fall in
love. Now that's not only highly improbable/unrealistic, it also derives
the whole situation of much of its dramatic impact and makes Marcia a
rather empty character - empty enough that even giving birth to a demon
later on doesn't seem to phaze her any. (Chintyara Alona by the way does her best
to bring the character to life anyhow, but she just can't beat the
material she's working with.) What even adds to my problem with the film
is that the
non-horror portions of the story resemble nothing as much as an incredibly
bland and clichéed soap opera, thus are of very little interest in
themselves. Apart from its narrative shortcomings, the film is also not
helped much by a flat direction, but even the best directorial effort in
the world wouldn't have made this film much better ...
