Rufus ("Freeway" Ricky Ross) might not have made much out of himself,
spending most of his nights on a streetcorner desperate for company, but
he sure knows a lot of stories he's willing to share with whoever lends
him an ear:
- There's the story of morgue attendant Stanley (Angelo Moore), who
injures his hand while taking care of a notorious serialkiller and the
killer's blood gets mixed in with his - abd ever since, his hand feels
the urge to do evil things ...
- There's naive actress Emily (Debra Haden), who's just too happy to
land a part in a play on her first day in the big city that she
neglects to notice both cast and crew might not have her best
interests in mind ...
- There's also a story about a dog with a not very dog-like face ...
- ... and one about domestic terrorists using explosive dolls.
- And finally, there's the story of Amos (David Scott Greene) and
Pini (Princess Frank), two hospital patients who've been in a
vegetative state for so long, they were handed over to Doctor Saul
(Spookey Ruben) and his assistant Ruth (Jennifer Drake) for
experimentation. Only Amos and Pini, who can talk to one another
telepathically, don't like this very much - but the state they're in,
there's little they can do. Enter new nurse Luciana (Annalisa
Guidone), who's secretly also Amos's girlfriend and who has telepathic
powers - and he has come to free the man of her life ...

Watching Rufus, one can't shake the feeling one's in
two movies, one is a collection of shorts of the welcomely old-fashioned
variety - you know, compact macabre stories with a surprise twist -,while
the last segment is a narratively rather complex featurette featuring some
batshit crazy ideas and (intentionally) ridiculous dialogue, all carried
by decidedly weird humour that's much less reliant on its finale than
thestory preceding it. The good thing here is the filmmaker proves to have
a steady hand in both and basically just manages to feliver a really fun
piece of horror cinema.
